Happy Kamehameha Day

I lucked into moving here just in time for holiday weekends galore. In additional to Memorial Day, I'm sure you all know that Monday is Kamehameha Day, so I'm off for that too. The plan is to spend as much of it outside as possible.

So yesterday was my "hike" on Diamond Head. I say "hike" because I'm not so sure it counts as a true hike if it's less than a mile each way and if the beginning of the path is paved. That being said, it's a fantastic view and there are enough stairs that I've decided it counts as a workout.

I live at the base of Diamond Head, so theoretically, I could do this all the time. Still, I had been warned that it's often extremely crowded, so it's not exactly a peaceful walk in the woods. They tell you to go in the morning because of the heat, so I decided to go around lunchtime to avoid the crowds. It was hot, but not unbearably so for such a short time, and while there were a fair amount of people, there weren't lines up the stairs as I hear there can be during peak times.

After my Diamond Head trip, I took the car to explore more of the coast, and ended up hanging out at Waimanalo Beach for the rest of the afternoon. Nice waves allowing the water to be fun without fear of death, a trashy magazine, and all of ten people on the stretch of beach that I had claimed. It was a really nice afternoon.

Kelly - Congrat's(!!!) on making the decision for the big move. You are going to love it there!

Here are a few fun things from my time out there:

1. If you are into fireworks then definitely try and make it down to Waikiki for the 4th of July. I have never seen bigger or better fireworks.

2. The Dole Plantation is fun too. It has the biggest human maze yet! You can also see huge fields of Pineapples. Kind of crazy.

3. If you drive out towards Khalua you will start to smell the coffee farm before you reach them. Kind of neat. Bay watch used to be filmed out there too.

5. Believe it or not Kaanapalli has an ice skating rink.

K, I am done. :)

I am happy you started a blog too. I can't wait to see and here about all your adventures!

Thanks for sharing.

By the way this is Bonnie :)

Oh the rough life, living by the beach in Hawaii. Kinda like here in Detroit.
(wait for you to stop laughing)
Obviously I heard about your move through Lano, I'm very jealous. I've never been to Hawaii, but my in-laws live in Lahaina, Maui. So if you plan on visiting there, let me know and I'll give you some ideas from them. Or if you want to golf over there, they can cut you a deal cause they work at Kapalua.

As for the blog, keep it going. It's a great way to keep people up to date with your life, and to make us all jealous. However, why does your's not open the comments in a seperate window like Lano's? And also, I think people also like to see pics of you guys in your adventures (like Lano's marathon pics). So don't forget to post some of those.

Good luck! And shoot me an email some time.

Because I aim to please, I switched the comments settings to open in a new window. Did you forget who you were talking to, though? I can barely use my computer to email. Starting a blog, as far as I'm concerned, is as technologically sophisticated as designing Deep Blue. I'm practically a genius now.
